On Thursday, December 15, 2016 the Board of Governors of Quest University Canada met in special session. The Board was represented by Board Chair Mary Jo Larson, J.D., partner at Warner Norcross & Judd LLP and Quest parent, Past Chair Ian Worland, L.L.B., former Chair of the Society of Trust & Estate Planners (Canada), Chancellor Daniel R. Birch, Ph.D., former Provost of UBC and advocate for higher education in B.C., Vice-Chancellor Peter Englert, Ph.D., President of Quest University Canada, Chief Pekultn Siyam (Dale Harry), consultant at Aboriginal Economic Solutions and Negotiator for the Squamish Nation Council, and Stuart D. Louie, J.D., former associate at Davis Wright Tremaine and current member of London Drugs leadership team.
The Board of Governors issued the following resolution in honour of Dr. David Strangway, founder and first President of Quest University Canada.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, David Strangway became a towering leader of Canadian post-secondary education by virtue of his leadership at the University of Toronto and his successful and extraordinary 12-year Presidency of the University of British Columbia, during which he brought UBC to international prominence; and
WHEREAS, on his departure from the UBC presidency, David Strangway became President and CEO of the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, through which he continued to have a significant impact on UBC and distributed more than $2.7 billion across Canada; and
WHEREAS, on his subsequent retirement, rather than enjoy a well-deserved rest, David Strangway undertook to create from scratch a model undergraduate university education, based on everything he had learned in his illustrious career about the nature of learning and innovation; and
WHEREAS, David Strangway brought his vision to reality in Quest University Canada, Canada’s first private, non-profit university, located in beautiful Squamish, British Columbia; and
WHEREAS, the unique model of education envisioned by David Strangway has engaged and will engage thousands of young people, whose lives forever will be altered, empowered, and guided by the powerful intellectual tools, interdisciplinary understanding, leadership skills, and global perspective built within them through a Quest education; and
WHEREAS, David Strangway turned into reality his dream of a liberal-arts program that would engage and inspire students, and transform them into global citizens; and
WHEREAS, the families, communities, and nations of these young people will continue to benefit for decades to come from the insight and skills they carry within them from their Quest education.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Governors of Quest University Canada acknowledges and honors the memory of David Strangway for his vision and invaluable contributions to the birth and success of Quest University Canada; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governors extend their heartfelt condolences to David Strangway’s family, especially his wife Alice and their three children, and thank them for supporting his dream and diligence in establishing Quest University Canada.
