7 / EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

Experiential Learning blocks are another way Quest students take charge of their education. As a requirement of all students, Experiential Learning usually involves volunteer work, internships, lab research, or other work off campus focused towards their Question. Students can carry out their Experiential Learning for one block (one month), or for up to an entire semester (four months); but what makes these opportunities challenging is the independent aspect of their design. Students research and arrange the opportunities themselves, including travel, accommodation, the work they will do, and the projects they will complete – making it a completely unique experience.

Experiential Learning blocks allow students to delve deeper into their areas of passion and get a hands-on experience of the career in which they are interested. Tutors (professors) are helpful in this process, pointing students in certain directions, bouncing ideas around, or even providing contacts for placements. They also act as course supervisors in conjunction with on-site supervisors. Experiential learning can be a student’s first step in gaining experience, building a resume, and creating their own connections for the future.
