Sussing it Out: Exploring Sustainable Development in Jamaica
Mentor: Dr. Ian Picketts
How can we foster climate change resilience in the Caribbean? The Caribbean region currently lies at the heart of the climate crisis, despite having contributed very little towards it. In an effort to prepare for these changes and ensure the Caribbean’s future, sustainable development has been adopted by many islands, including Jamaica. However, the island’s history of colonisation and exploitation by the Global North makes sustainable development, chiefly pertaining to the economy and environment, difficult to fully embrace. In this podcast, I attempt to deconstruct the concept of sustainable development and delve into its feasibility in the Small Island Developing State of Jamaica.
