Exploring the energetics of adaptive climbing
Mentor: Dr. Molly Welsh
What are the physiological demands of adaptive rock climbing? This question can be answered by investigating the body’s acute responses to exercise. Currently, there is an insufficient physiological understanding of adaptive climbing. This knowledge gap prevents exercise-prescribing health professionals from knowing what constitutes an appropriate ‘dose’ of adaptive climbing. My research sought to decrease this knowledge gap by describing the energetic costs of indoor climbing for two adaptive athletes, one of whom has a complete spinal cord injury, and the other an incomplete spinal cord injury. This talk will guide you through my research journey and summarize its results.
