Ecological, evolutionary, and socioeconomic impacts of marine parasites: three case studies of novel and known relationships
Mentor: Dr. Marjorie Wonham
What are the impacts of symbioses? Parasites can have major impacts on their hosts, with direct and indirect implications for humans. In turn, humans can affect the dynamics of host/ parasite populations. My Keystone explores the ecological, evolutionary, and socioeconomic impacts of marine parasites by diving into three case studies: 1) identifying parasitism among other symbiotic relationships, 2) parasite & host ecology and implications for humans, and 3) the influence of humans on the evolution of hosts & parasites and its potential ecological and socioeconomic impacts. Together, these case studies highlight the profound importance of parasites.
