Creating Outdoor Inclusion and Sustainability in the Sea to Sky
Mentor: John Reid-Hresko

How do we improve diversity, inclusion and sustainability in the Sea to Sky outdoor
industry? I am passionate about activism and want to address the divide in outdoor recreation and
outdoor spaces at Quest University and in my local community. In my keystone I plan to do this by
designing my dream: a used outdoor gear store on the Quest University campus, which is an
important space to promote community, unity, and identity for everyone. I aim to create fresh
opportunities for everyone to connect, form bonds with like-minded people, gain access to critical
information, and take part in hands-on learning experiences in locations such as the Sea to Sky and
Squamish.
This space will promote diversity, inclusivity, and sustainability and will offer a diverse
range of gear, clothing, and accessories for outdoor activities. It will also provide services such as
buying, selling, trading, sharing, distributing, recycling, renting, and repairing new and used gear. I
aim to create a warm, inviting, and well-organized environment that encourages individuals from all
walks of life to explore and engage in outdoor recreation and outdoor spaces. By doing so, this will
foster a more diverse, inclusive, and sustainable outdoor community that will benefit Quest, the
local community, and future generations of Quest students and the Sea to Sky region.

Quest University Canada is suspending regular academic programming following
completion of the current academic year in April 2023.
