From Cycles of Violence to Circles of Healing
Mentor: Dr. Jacy Young

What does it mean to embody heteropatriarchy? How can we–as individuals and a society–create spaces for unlearning heteropatriarchy? This Keystone identifies an intersection between trauma psychology, gender studies, and criminology to explore the role of unhealed trauma and heteropatriarchal norms as root causes to the perpetration of gender-based violence by men in Canada. When these issues are not being addressed at their roots, cycles of violence continue. In this presentation, I argue that responses to cycles of gender-based violence must have an attention to perpetrators that examines trauma, toxic gender norms, accountability, and healing.
