How do we make STEM accessible to minorities? My Keystone presentation explores the issue of diversity in STEM by briefly discussing a study I conducted on diversity in international environmental non-governmental organization (ENGO) boardrooms. In this study, 28 organizations and 140 board members were analyzed to better understand who sits in leadership positions. A key finding from this study was that the majority of members on these boards are highly educated older white males with fair skin. Together with the existing literature, this Keystone provides further evidence of the diversity deficit in environmental organizations and more broadly, the STEM workforce.
