Voting Behaviour in Canada: Analyzing the Relationship between Partisanship, Region, and Issue Voting in Literature and the 2015 Canadian Federal Election

| How does region, partisanship, and issues affect vote choice? Voting theorists uphold that variations in party support across the country reflect regional differences and parties can reinforce and shape how issues are perceived. Few studies show that perception of issues has as powerful of an effect on an individual’s party attachment. However, by performing statistical analyses on the Canadian Election Study data, it is clear that in the election, voter’s perceptions of issues and voter’s party attachments affected each other in a reciprocal way; both partisanship identification and issue perception were also impacted by region. |
