Cultivating Inclusion
Mentor: Dr. Maï Yasué
After pursuing the question “How do we reconnect?” I have found a unique place within food systems that allows community members to forge meaningful social relationships with one another and connect to the food they are producing and consuming. I use interdisciplinary inquiry and a mixed-methods approach to examine the importance of incorporating justice within food systems. By using a case-study of a vertical hydroponic farm in Wyoming, my research demonstrates the potential of local food systems to provide inclusive employment to marginalized populations. Specifically, I highlight the benefits of employing people with disabilities within local, alternative food movements. |
