A Trip Towards Wavelets
Mentor: Dr. Jeff Warren
How can abstract mathematical structures reveal concrete representations of sound? For example, we can ask “how can we tell the story of a melody?” or, in other words, “which frequencies are happening at which times?” Transforms are mathematical tools that allow us to answer these types of questions. In this Keystone presentation, I provide an intuitive overview of the Fourier transform, the windowed Fourier transform, and the wavelet transform to see how these abstract mathematical tools provide a powerful method of musical analysis. |
