Dear Members of the Quest Community,
In the wake of the recent attack on a Quebec mosque and the U.S. President’s executive order initiating a travel ban and immigration moratorium on citizens from seven predominately Muslim countries, Quest University Canada would like to reaffirm its commitment to tolerance, openness, and inclusivity. Quest’s founder, Dr. David Strangway, whose life will be celebrated on February 3rd, grew up a child of medical missionaries in Angola. He envisioned Quest as a university that sought to integrate knowledge without borders, that benefitted from a truly international student population, and that was intimate in size, where everyone on campus knew and respected each other. Nearly a decade after our founding, we hold true to these values and reaffirm that they are indeed something worth striving for when faced with intolerance.
On Friday, January 27, 2017, the Board of Governors adopted a statement, drafted by the Diversity and Equity Committee, to reaffirm our commitment to tolerance. As we develop our vision, mission, and values this year, it is crucial that these particular values are highlighted.
The Executive team and Student Affairs will work with all available means to assist any students or employees of the University who are affected by the travel ban. Because of our international commitment, we have dealt with visa struggles in the past. Please contact International Student Advisor Will Prescott, or Executive Vice-President I-Chant Chiang, if students, staff, and faculty require assistance.
Sincerely,
Peter Englert
President & Vice-Chancellor
