Kate Kurdyak, a 3rd year student and member of our Elite Althea and performer Program (EAPP), has been making headline across the country with the release of her band, The Katherines, new single “Primitive”.
In 2012, Kate and her band won Youthink Magazine’s BC’s Best Teen Band Contest and played in the Summer Playland Festival at the PNE where she met Jonathan Simkin, who would become her manager. She went on to sign a record deal with 604 Records, owned by Chad Kruger of Nickleback.
As Kate started crafting the collection that would become “To Bring You My Heart” (Her new LP), Kate’s sister Lauren Kurdyak and life-long friend Kaitlyn Hansen-Boucher stepped out from the ad hoc ensemble to take on a larger role in helping realize her vision. As the tracks took shape, whether by flirting with the shadowy sounds of noir-N-b or the sock hop pep of ’60s girl groups, the three decided to come together as The Katherines.
The Elite Athlete and Performer Program (EAPP) at Quest University Canada is structured to accommodate the special needs of accomplished student athletes and performers. This program is suited for students seeking to balance rigorous academics with the pursuit of sport, performance or art at a highly competitive or professional level. EAPP students are afforded extra flexibility in housing, billing, and course scheduling, and are awarded an automatic $10,000 scholarship upon admission to the program.
