What Good is Journalism, Anyway?
Mentor: Dr. André Lambelet
|What good is journalism, anyway? Today, many believe that journalism has devolved into total fluff that lacks substance (see online quizzes about cheese). I forward a contrasting definition of journalism which demonstrates its continued importance. The work of reporters Hunter S. Thompson and Seymour Hersch embodies this novel definition. Through an analysis of their work I argue that they produced high-quality investigative work that proves that journalism can still serve democracy and accomplish much more than the dissemination of literary fluff and quizzes about cheese.|
