The Influence of Political Polarization, Social Networking Sites, and the Proliferation of Fake News.

|How could social media usage affect a politically active individual in their ability to distinguish real news from fake? Currently, there are over two billion users of Facebook. During the 2016 election in America, fake news used these platforms to proliferate. This motivated me to investigate the relationship between social media usage and the proliferation of fake news. My central thesis is that individuals who use social media as their political news source, will be more likely to falsely identify a fake news article as true news, than individuals who do not use social media as their news source.|
