Planetary formation across the galaxy
Mentor: Dr. Natalie Bursztyn
How do planet sizes vary across the galaxy? As of March 31st, 2020, astronomers have observed 4241 exoplanets, that is planets orbiting stars other than the Sun. Statistical studies demonstrate that most stars within our galaxy should host orbiting planets. In my talk, I present preliminary results from my paper “Planetary mass-radius relations across the galaxy” which has been submitted to the Astronomy & Astrophysics journal for publication. We predict that planet sizes vary between the different galactic substructures. This provides the groundwork for future studies of exoplanets around stars two to three times as old as the Sun.
