Locating the Corporate Corpus: A Discussion on the Future of Urban Autonomy
Mentor: Dr. Fei Shi
|Why, for 150 years, has the United States granted corporations legal equality with humans? Economic narratives assert there must be strong corporate presence for cities to succeed: Detroit? Automotive. New York? Finance. Seattle? The tech giant, Amazon.
By leveraging their human status, corporations expand influence beyond economics to integrate with urban geographies and amass structural power. Here, I demonstrate how corporate geographic dominance physically and politically shapes our societies, generating violence against civil liberties and local communities. To fully expose the dangers of corporate deregulation, we must extend their “humanity” by using the body as a theoretical mechanism of critique.
