Listening for landslides: creating an alarm system at the Mount Meager Volcanic Complex
Mentor: Dr. Steve Quane
How can we use existing technology to reliably inform a landslide alarm system?

Monitoring is essential to the mitigation of landslide related hazards.  Due to a dynamic environment and wet climate, landslides are common in the British Columbia’s Coast Mountains. The Mount Meager Volcanic Complex (MMVC) is one of the most landslide prone regions in Canada. Over the last year, I have worked (alongside others) to implement seismic/acoustic monitoring at the MMVC. This system will inform a landslide alarm for local hydro projects, the Squamish Lillooet Regional District, the Village of Pemberton, and the Lil’wat Nation. We plan to install in the summer of 2020.
