Destressing by Laughing at Others: Research Proposal on Relationship Between Stress and Disparaging Humor.
Mentor: Dr. Tanjeem Azad
|What is the importance of communicating humor? Humor has a wide range of applications, one of which is stress coping. Psychological studies found that positive type of humor is helpful against stressful events, but does that hold true for negative type of humor? To tackle this literature gap, I am proposing a study that seeks to find out how effective is disparaging (e.g. sexist, racist, homophobic) humor in reducing stress. From the conclusion of the study, we can draw better understanding what causes people to use disparaging humor, which would help us to create better counterstrategies against it.|
