The current political climate in the United States is troubling for all parties involved. The Democratic and Republican parties control all of the legitimate political discourse, dominating narratives and forcing citizens to conform to one side or the other. I detail the events leading up to the formation of the contemporary political system and how capitalism has played a role in the polarization process. This historical exploration and analysis are followed by a literary analysis of the current iteration of the US supreme court. The court is perhaps more divided than ever before in American history and this has lead to some major concerns within the contemporary political arena. I then review the literature on the proposed social and policy-driven solutions to the issues America faces today.
