How can storytelling be leveraged to foster greater connection to nature? For my keystone project I wrote and illustrated a children’s storybook with the intention of creating a usable model of self-identification regarding urban induced stress. This keystone project was important to me because of my own personal experiences. I wanted to be able to academically articulate what I was feeling throughout my childhood and be able to create a usable tool to help others self-diagnose and correct free of judgment. I created My Heart’s Home to demonstrate the feelings of being ungrounded that are created by over-structured urban settings and then provide opportunity for self-reflection. For this project I learned how to paint in watercolor, craft visual and textual compositions, and book setting. I also worked important concepts for the fields of ecology and education into my narrative.
