How do we combat climate change? We can begin to generate tangible ways to counteract the harsh effects of atmospheric carbon by first understanding the elements that contribute to Earth’s climate system. My keystone explores the effects that volcanic eruptions impose on Earth’s climate. More specifically, my keystone presents a computer-program model that quantifies the global temperature given a volcanically erupted mass of sulfur dioxide. Observed effects of volcanics on climate show a general cooling trend; my keystone quantifies this relationship to add to the growing investigation of artificial injection of sulfur dioxide to combat climate change.
