This presentation outlines the journey to create an instrument and the unexpected steps that I had to take in order to learn the things I wanted to know. The take home message is that learning is not bound by resources and the limitations we put on ourselves are the hardest to unlearn. Opportunities to learn present themselves in our everyday lives and the best way to take advantage of them is by enterprising a project that is of interest no matter how much expertise you might have in the field.
