Where Fear Comes to Stay: Exploring the Psychological Resilience of Children in the Kashmir Valley
Mentor: Dr. Tanjeem Azad

How do children experience psychological trauma from war? Conflict continues to be pervasive in many parts of the world. Consequently, one in six children live in conflict zones and consequently experience high levels of trauma.

This keystone presentation highlights the contributing factors of psychological resilience in children living in the Kashmir valley, which suggests that children’s resilience is affected by support, religion, and access to healthcare. By highlighting factors that increase resilience, mental health professionals can use this project to plan and implement interventions that cater specifically to children in Kashmir.
