Treating Breast Cancer in Low-Resource SettingsCase Study: Rwanda.
Mentor: Dr. Thor Veen

What breast cancer treatments are available in Rwanda? Breast cancer is a severe health concern. Research predicts that 1 in 8 women will develop the disease. Surprisingly, 80% of cancer disability-adjusted life-years lost are in developing countries, while only 5% of the oncology resources are in those settings. This unfair and unacceptable distribution of cancer care resources makes treating breast cancer in developing countries unmanageable. The purpose of my presentation is, by using the example of Rwanda, to give hope that breast cancer can be treated and should be treated in poor settings.
