The Man Who Wanted to Eat a Sandwich: Three lessons in writing musical theatre
Mentor: Dr. James McKinnon
Do you struggle with writer’s block? I do. For my Keystone, I wrote and composed a short 10-minute musical called The Man Who Wanted to Eat a Sandwich. The musical focuses on Manny, a normal man who just wants to eat a sandwich in a world where sandwiches have been made illegal. In this presentation, I discuss the process of writing the musical, as well as three strategies I learned along the way to deal with my writer’s block: keep it simple (and) stupid, be proud of your influences, and write short and sweet.
