Reconceptualizing the ‘Immigrant Problem’ through the the Squamish-Sikh Diaspora
Mentor: Dr. Darcy Otto

How (much) is the value of a human determined by the socioeconomic and cultural landscapes that they constitute, and how does this value shift with movement across geographic borders?

What is the value of a passport?

While immigration is inevitable in our globalized world, narratives surrounding it remain fragmented, not accounting for the nuances produced by economic, political and cultural situations in the home and host countries. Through Squamish Sikh’s own words, I try to contextualize immigration and the processes that facilitate or hinder this transition. I do this to help us conceptualize the immigrant problem as the immigrant experience.
