A meta-analysis of Canadian Geopark and Indigenous Engagement Literature
Mentor: Dr. John Reid-Hresko
How can we promote Indigenous consultation in land designations? This presentation uses a meta-analysis of Canadian Geopark and Indigenous engagement literature to explore the current dimensions of Indigenous consultation and involvement in UNESCO Global Geoparks. I overview historical and current settler-Indigenous relationships in Canada, gaps in existing Geopark literature, and emergent literary themes related to community and Indigenous engagement. This discussion intersects disciplines of sociology, environmental studies and Indigenous studies.
