How do we navigate the Anthropocene? Drawing from Environmental Studies and Communications, my question took interest in the discourses that guide us through this time of environmental degradation and climate change. It also inspired my visit to my hometown’s historical archives where I found The Loon, a place-based publication from the 80s-90s, highlighting arts, community, and environment. Guided by the metaphor of the nurse stump, this presentation summarizes my project to revive The Loon and thereby, revive a local tradition of using the platform to cultivate community, inspire creativity, and catalyze change.
