As interconnected inhabitants of Earth, how can we interact with the environment and each other in accordance with our unique needs, cultures, and values? This presentation contemplates the role of economics and its purpose in finding a balance in these interactions focusing on industry. It argues for a pluralistic approach to address different issues at the intersection of the environment, society, and economics through research outlined in a set of papers. These papers attempt to wholistically conceptualize sustainability problems from the ground up to determine if the current solutions are the best path forward.
