Do we need sex-specific ski boots?
Mentor: Thor Veen

How do we experience the outdoors? I chose to answer this question through political ecology. Political ecology looks at the relationships between humans and nature. I used this lens to focus on female ski boots. I found that although there is an attempt to try and incorporate women’s anatomy, current ski boots do not fully accommodate the lower-limb anatomy of women because they focus on the measurements between the sexes. Instead, I suggest that there should be a range of base models that accommodate lower-limb types instead of two categories. This would help foster a more inclusive culture for skiing.
