How do we conserve Reptiles and Amphibians in British Columbia? There are relatively few species of reptiles and amphibians in Canada, and they often have small geographical ranges and low populations. However, this does not mean that the ecological roles they fill in our ecosystems are not important, and that they are any less deserving of conservation efforts. .This paper will centre primarily on amphibians, as they have some unique interactions with ecosystems and with human impacts. Some information will also be included regarding reptiles, as their species numbers, population, distribution, and well-being are like that of amphibians in the province. The three primary aspects of herpetological conservation that will be covered are: threats to amphibians through human development, threats at different stages of an amphibian’s life cycle, current conservation projects and the future of amphibian conservation.
