
Are Emergency Medical Services socially sustainable? In the healthcare sector, social sustainability focuses on the quality of life and emotional well-being of healthcare providers. Burnout syndrome is a major concern in social sustainability because it leads to a decreased quality of life for care providers and a decreased quality of patient care. Therefore, it is important that healthcare organizations take measures to reduce the risk of burnout to improve social sustainability. This Keystone presentation explores the role burnout syndrome plays in the United States Emergency Medical Services and proposes an additional possible risk factor.
