How does gender impact the introduction to, and path through, houselessness in the United States and Canada? Using an intersectional framework to avoid a single-axis analysis of gender and houselessness, I track the ways that privilege and disadvantage converge with institutional power dynamics, highlighting the significance of race, gender, and class on the paths into and through houselessness. This presentation will explore the unique differences in the experience of houselessness as a woman by examining the differences in the introduction to and navigational strategies through houselessness. By analyzing gender, I highlight the importance of centering houseless women at the forefront of policy and social reform initiatives.
