How do individuals heal from childhood sexual trauma? This question guided academic research in the fields of anthropology, psychology, and sociology to shape my understanding of how past, present, and future traumas are embodied. Centering feminist, clinical, and medical publications, I have reviewed and analyzed the gendering of sexual trauma, violence against women, and the systemic failure to provide adequate care. Exploring the impact and recovery paths from sexual trauma allows for insight on interpersonal, relational, cultural, and systemic forms of violence. In response to the high prevalence of sexual violence against women and girls, this presentation provides an overview of trauma, childhood sexual abuse, gender-based violence, and healing interventions.
