The Political Self: Civic Identity and Law in Modern Societies
Mentor: Dr. Eric Gorham
How do we relate to our political identity? This question is explored through an inquiry into the relationship between laws and the formation of national identity. This presentation focuses on one example from my Keystone project: that of post-independence Turkey. Turkey, after the First World War, developed into a nation with a strong national identity as a result of extensive legal reform. This topic attempts to demonstrate how state structures like laws and legislation influence the formation of modern civic national identities.
