Is there a connection between wildfires and climate change? As the climate continues to warm, increasing extreme wildfire events pose a new challenge of perpetuating the positive feedback cycle of CO2emissions and climate change. To investigate the risk of rising wildfire trends in British Columbia, we estimated their potential global CO2contribution by determining the relationship between the number of fire incidences, the total area burned, and the overall CO2emissions. As the trend in wildfires keeps increasing yearly, wildfires have great potential to become the primary driver of climate change.
