How has the shift towards neoliberal capitalism affected institutions of higher learning? This presentation aims to understand the narrative of success that exists within the world of higher education by exploring how neoliberal capitalism has amplified the ideology of western individualism. I argue that these two phenomena have led to a decrease in the amount of critical thinking and engaged learning that takes place within higher learning. I explore the consequences of the resulting transformation of education into a hierarchical system that views students as consumers of an educational product and trains them for lucrative careers on the job market.
