Shifting Norms in Ecotourism: How social licensing could lead to reconciliation in Yosemite National Park
Mentor: Dr. Maï Yasué
| Yosemite National Park is known for its natural beauty and legacy as an international model for conservation, however there remains a complex relationship with stolen land, Indigenous resistance, and a precedence for reconciliation. Centered in this context, this presentation tells the story of how friendship and collaboration between Bill Tucker, an elder of the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation, and Hayden Wyatt, a settler working in Yosemite, led to a proposal to use social licensing in ecotourism to find reconciliation and fund a cultural center. |
