Mechanisms of Major Depressive Disorder: A Virtual Art Gallery

| What are the mechanisms of emotion? Major depressive disorder (MDD) is an affective disorder, impacting 264 million people world-wide, of which the symptoms can be debilitating. I’ve explored neuroscientific and genetic mechanisms hypothesized to be involved in MDD using traditional scientific literature analyses coupled with art making. I present my work here in the form of a gallery, encompassing a series of paintings, drawings, and explanatory text. The gallery serves to 1) instill curiosity about the mechanisms of MDD, 2) provide a scientific basis for MDD, and 3) promote empathy and understanding towards individuals living with MDD. |
