Ecological, evolutionary, and socioeconomic impacts of marine parasites: three case studies of novel and known relationships
Mentor: Dr. Marjorie Wonham
| What are the impacts of symbioses? Parasites can have major impacts on their hosts, with direct and indirect implications for humans. In turn, humans can affect the dynamics of host/ parasite populations. My Keystone explores the ecological, evolutionary, and socioeconomic impacts of marine parasites by diving into three case studies: 1) identifying parasitism among other symbiotic relationships, 2) parasite & host ecology and implications for humans, and 3) the influence of humans on the evolution of hosts & parasites and its potential ecological and socioeconomic impacts. Together, these case studies highlight the profound importance of parasites. |
