What is cisgender privilege and how can we use it?
Mentor: Dr. Ahalya Satkunaratnam
| What does it mean to be cisgender? Cisgender is defined as a person’s gender corresponding to their sex assigned at birth. Being cisgender yields cis privilege and understanding how to use it is crucial. I worked in collaboration with Ren Gómez Montoya, and we used feminist, queer, decolonial, and transgender theory to study the ways cis people can use their privilege to make the spaces they inhabit more trans and Two-Spirit inclusive. Our research reveals the ways these strategies can be applied to the Howe Sound Women’s Centre and how others can apply them in all spheres of life. |
