With over 1000 papers published in the last ten years, tandem catalysis is one of the most active fields in the chemical kinetics literature. Tandem catalysis enables chemists to trigger multiple reactions in a single reaction vessel without work-up and purification. This is especially advantageous for large-scale industrial reactions where the retention of mass is critical for economic reasons. In this presentation, I will detail the construction of a multi-author review paper. In particular, I will pay attention to the taxonomic system for the subcategories of tandem catalysis – how we classify these reactions, what advantages and disadvantages are present in each reaction types, and when each reaction would be used. I will also provide some exciting examples in the current literature including organometallic and organic catalysts.
