Jamie is a former ballet dancer who fell in love with the history of art and working with medieval manuscripts as an undergraduate at McMaster University.
Her current work focuses on the cognitive function of images in fifteenth-century encyclopedic manuscripts. Her broader interests include the history of the book, knowledge visualization, image-text relations, diagrams, cultures of reading, and the psychology of art.
Prior to Quest, Jamie taught Art History and Medieval Studies at the University of Victoria, where she was awarded the Andy Farquharson Teaching Excellence Award. Her teaching was also recognized through the acquisition of the university’s Codex Kemp, a 16th century manuscript named in her honour.
In her spare time, Jamie enjoys travelling to museums, galleries and libraries, experimenting with historical art-making techniques, sewing, collecting curious objects, and walking her golden retriever.
