Dr. Jeff Warren

MA, Trinity Western University
PhD, Royal Holloway, University of London
The question that most interests Jeff is, “How does music change the ways in which people relate to each other?” This has led him to study and teach a range of topics, including music and ethics; improvisation; soundscape; philosophy; psychology; and phenomenology.
Jeff’s book, Music and Ethical Responsibility (Cambridge University Press) explores the ethical responsibilities that arise from musical experience. His creative work includes jazz composition and performance on electric and double bass. He is also a sound artist, and was commissioned to create a sound sculpture for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
His recent research reflects the interdisciplinarity of the Quest philosophy. Jeff has keynoted a conference with a talk about mountain biking, musical multimedia, and wellness; written a series of publications on ethics, justice, and evangelical church music; has been invited to co-edit a book on Heidegger and music; and made sound art in collaboration with a visual artist and with ski photographers.
Jeff also does consulting work in interdisciplinary and general education curriculum design.
Prior to Quest, Jeff spent nine years teaching at Trinity Western University, where he maintains the title of Adjunct Professor of Music and Interdisciplinary Arts. He and his family enjoy getting out on the trails with their bikes.
