Darren Newton
Darren Newton joined Quest, as the Manager of Campus Life, in the fall of 2014 and brought more than 20 years of Student Affairs and Residence Life experience. A graduate of John Abbott College in Montreal and Memorial University in St. John’s, Darren was always highly engaged in student and campus life. Darren’s efforts as a student leader, including positions on both the undergraduate and graduate student associations, the university senate, and dozens of university committees, were recognized in 1999 when he received the National Student Leadership Award, and was inducted in to the Paton College Honor Society for Student Leadership.
As a Student Affairs professional, Darren lived on Memorial’s campus for 17 years, and held positions as the Residence Medical Officer, a Residence Coordinator, and the Residence Life Advisor. Before coming to Quest, Darren was the Senior Researcher and Special Advisor in the Office of the Deputy Provost (Students) and the Analyst for Memorial’s International Centre. While working in Student Affairs at Memorial, Darren received both the award for Outstanding Contribution to Undergraduate Student Life, and Graduate Student Life.
Darren has also worked as an applied researcher, consultant, and facilitator in the private and non-profit sectors, and was a policy analyst for the government of Newfoundland & Labrador’s department of Post-Secondary Education.
A lover of fresh air and rapid waters, Darren has camped, hiked, and canoed throughout the Adirondack Mountains and along the eastern seaboard, cycled the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland, and survived a week long blizzard on the Labrador coast.
Darren truly thrives in the unique learning environment at Quest and when not in his office, or wandering campus, can be found lying in his hammock reading.
